Whether you are a Mac guy or a PC gal, there is no better place to comparison shop for desktop computers than Shopping.com.
It is a debate that has been raging since the advent of desktop computers: Mac or PC. It seems most people find themselves gravitating to one of the camps, with a few defectors who come and go. Both formats have their strengths, and for the casual user, either choice provide an excellent option.

Contrary to what Mac wants you to believe, not all PC users are anal retentive dorks. In fact, the majority of desktop computer users have PCs. One of the main reasons is probably cost. While Mac has released some lower-priced desktop options in recent years, it is much more common to see budget-priced PCs. Pundits sought to find how much machine you can get for your money have found that your dollar goes further with PCs than with Macs. Mac proponents counter that this is an unfair assessment because many of Mac’s benefits aren’t reflected in spec sheets.

In reliability tests, Macs have consistently outperformed PCs in terms of durability and longevity. Of course, there are a number of different companies that make desktop PCs, so there is variation of quality among the different PC brands. Another advantage of Macs lies in their resistance to viruses and spyware, most of which is written for PCs. That is not to say that Macs are completely immune from these annoyances, only that they are significantly less susceptible.

In tests of the main Operating Systems (OSs) incorporated in Macs and PCs, OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 faired similarly. Most experts consider the quality and efficiency of operating systems a dead heat, especially with the release of the much improved Windows 7. These same experts believe that down the road, the comparable quality will be equal.

When it comes to the PC/Mac preference, for many people, the choice comes down with what they are most familiar with. If you cut your preverbal desktop computer teeth on a PC, chances are, your allegiance will lie in that camp. If you went to a school that had classrooms full of Macs, there is a better chance that you will be attracted to that format. Many experts say that Mac appeals to people on an emotional level. Perhaps that is why they tend to excel with musicians and designers who are enamored with the programs, look, and the experience of owning a Mac. However, for a person with more practical needs, a PC will suit you just fine.
