If you were a follower of the rock n’ roll scene in the years between 1975-79, you must have heard of this all-girl band who took the rock music world by storm. Many subsequent rock acts, particularly the all-girl bands, owe their success to The Runaways.
The film shows the story of the two lead members of the band, Joan Jett, the rhythm guitarist, played by Kristen Stewart of the Twilight Saga fame, and Cherie Currie, the lead vocalist, played by Dakota Fanning, star of movies like Uptown Girls and Man On Fire. The movie shows their rise to fame, their huge successes and ultimate destruction, leading to the break-up of the band. The movie is directed by Floria Sigismondi, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. The movie also stars Stella Maeve, Alia Shawkat and Scout Taylor-Compton as the other members of the band. Their influential manager, Kim Fowley, is portrayed by Michael Shannon.
If you are looking forward to watching this movie, be warned. There is probably going to be huge rush for the tickets as not many people would want to miss out on watching this movie. Rock n’ Roll is still very much alive in the music scene and to see a movie about such an iconic group is going to be a must for most of us.
