The key here is to know the basic steps and requirements, so you can add your personal touch later. Below is a step-by-step procedure on how to create your own laptop computer.
Build the foundations first
The first step is choosing a “white box”. A white box is an empty shell that includes a screen, keyboard, motherboard, fan, and the essential drivers. It’s essentially the skin and bones of the computer. You will add the organs and innards later. Since this is entirely customized, it’s up to you to choose the size of your screen, the material of your keyboard, or the thickness of your white box.
Add the hardware and operating system
Depending on the type of kit you’ve chosen, you would find that some hardware are not applicable to your laptop computer. For instance, your options for a processor are dictated by the kit’s motherboard. Small motherboards support only a few Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs such as 2.6-GHz T9500 and 2.5GHz T9300. If you want processors with excellent performance, have a large white box to begin with.
Next is the hard drive. Hard drives today are generally the same, so it really depends on how huge you want your storage capacity to be. You can go up to 500GB of storage space but remember that you would have to sacrifice some speed in exchange for additional storage. The two main factors of a hard drive are storage space and rpm. The best type is one that has a balance between the two components. Ideally, a 200GB with 7,200-rpm is the best way to go if you’re looking to have a multi-purpose laptop.
When it comes to RAM, it is recommended that you put as much RAM as your system can handle because the more RAM your computer has, the more tasks it can do simultaneously. Besides, who would want a slow and choppy computer? Adding RAM is affordable and easy to do. Simply go to your local computer store and have them add it to your computer.
As for the operating system, it’s only a matter of choosing between Windows XP and Vista Home Premium. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. It’s imperative that you choose your operating system before putting your hard drive because the drivers required in installing Windows XP is entirely different from the drivers needed to install Windows Vista.
Customize it
