How to Make a Photography Website

As a photographer the visual aspect of your website is critical. Wix.com offers a variety of different free Flash templates designed to showcase photography in the best possible way. Of course, no one can beat the personalized look you give your site when adding your own personal photographs and content onto the template.

Choosing a Template

Choose a template that compliments your photographs. You have the option of playing with the colors, textures, levels of transparency and special effects, which makes it possible to achieve practically any type of look, from the most minimal, clean and simple, to an extravagant celebration of color.

Creating a Layout

I chose the photographer's portfolio Flash template as a simple and beautiful solution for photographers who wish to display an endless amount of photographs, while adding texts that create added value. This template places an emphasis on separating the page into sections, giving a very clean cut look that sets off the pictures beautifully. Of course, different photos work with different styles and looks and only you know what's best for your artwork.

Galleries

Galleries are probably the most important element of a photography website. Wix.com has several types of galleries, each of which can be further customized in accordance with your own tastes. Click on the gallery button on the left side menu. Choose a photo album, slideshow, slider, carousel, cover flow or matrix type gallery. Notice that a new menu has popped up from the lower right hand corner. If you chose a carousel gallery, for example, it'll give you several options for different carousel type galleries from which to choose.

Managing Galleries

After inserting the gallery, notice the new menu at the bottom of the screen and click the 'manage' button to start uploading your photos. You can also change the navigator, add an extra one, change its color, add general effects to the entire gallery or to single pictures and do just about anything you want to customize your website's appearance and make it absolutely perfect.

The Importance of Captions

Take your time and write captions to go along with your pictures. The photographer's portfolio template for example, deals with the dilemma of balancing image and text in an interesting way. The portfolio page features single pictures with a text narrative beneath them, while the gallery page features a matrix gallery that displays all the pictures side by side, creating a colorful extravaganza.

Categorizing

If you would like to differentiate between different picture types you can make as many pages as you need and post the pictures in accordance with topic, style, date or any other categorization that comes to mind.
