There are lots of different ways to get a nice polished look after your woodworking. After several years of professional development and personal insight, here is a short list and compendium to get the best finishing possible.
1. You should use 120-grit sandpaper whenever you’re sanding for the last time. This allows for the stain to be better absorbed by the wood. Next, for the edges, use 220-grit to make the colours of the face grain and end grain relatively the same.
2. For the last bit, an orbital sander is preferable to other types of sanding because it does not leave horrible scratches or gouges like the other types. If you’re looking for a decent orbital sander, then you should try Makita Bo6030 which is a great favourite among many woodworkers. It is constant in its results and you certainly change up the speed. However, if you don’t like orbital sandpapers, then you can always try the loop and hook sandpaper, which is definitely not very hard to use.
3. Now, with a 220-grit sandpaper, hand-sand the edges with a sanding block. However, a sanding block might not be perfect for your job, so you might have to use your hand instead.
4. Try to reach tight spaces with a scraper. These places may include glue spot areas. Instead of the typical sandpaper, the scraper is a lot easier to work with, and it will even give you a nice, even area.

Remember to ventilate the workspace frequently and allow the air to be cleaned. Let some dust to drift after you sand in the day. Afterwards, though, you should try to get rid of all the dust that has gathered in the project before you stain with a cloth of tack. In fact, if you have some sort of an air cleaner, that might be your best bet for the finished coats.
Try to use stain that is of high quality, like the MinWax penetrating stain. This stain can seep through for about 30 to 45 minutes, and then you can get rid of it with a cloth that is lint-free, which gives a wonderful uniform look to the woodworking piece. After you let the stain dry a bit, you can then add on a second coat to your woodworking piece. After that, wipe off the second coat, which leaves your work looking more beautiful than ever. If you allow it to dry for yet another day, you can even try to apply another layer of coat if you want.
