Area rugs provide intrinsic natural beauty to any space, ease of maintenance- with simple care; it makes an ideal choice for some locations.
Keep your area rugs looking their best by following these simple tips for basic care, deep cleaning and stain removal:
Vacuuming– To keep your area rug clean, vacuum often.
1. To proper clean of your area rugs, remove the furniture on it and vacuum the surface to remove dirt.
2. To get the maximum amount of dirt, flip over the rug and vacuum the back of it.
3. At last, turn over the rug and vacuum all over again on front side of the rug.
Vacuuming the back of the rug is the only way to get the dirt out that settles against the backing. This should be done quite often that prevents dirt from building up. Vacuuming your area rug regularly helps to keep your home fresh and allergy free. Weekly vacuuming on both sides would be ideal. But that will not be possible for busy homeowners; in that case you should do it at least once every two weeks.
To avoid your rugs from worn fringes and frayed edges, do not vacuum over the corners of your area rugs. Clean area rug fringes by adjusting the power of the vacuum to low level. If the power is adjusted to high level it starts to loosen the fibers and look like a twisted, stringy mess.
Improper cleaning can damage your rug– People walking all over your luxurious rug eventually causes wear and tear. You might be adding to that damage by cleaning your rugs in the wrong method!
There are a few common mistakes that homeowners would do when it comes to cleaning area rugs. These mistakes can reduce the life of your rugs.
Don’t beat your rugs– Avoid beating your rugs to remove dirt and dust. If you beat the rugs, it could cause the woven threads to undo where it damages the backing of the rug. Some inexpensive rugs will be separated from their backing after one beating.
Do not use carpet shampoos or sprays– Using carpet shampoos and carpet shampooing machines can accomplish damage to area rugs. Drenching your area rug with water is not a good idea where it ruins the rug and the floor beneath. Carpet sprays can discolor your area rugs. It is best to have your rug cleaned efficiently.
Area Rug stains removal– If you notice a stain while you’re vacuuming, you can act on the stain right away with a mild stain solution.
For new stains–
1. Place a cloth or clean towel beneath the rug.
2. Blot the stain using a paper towel or a clean cloth.
3. Continue the same to pull out as much of the spill as you can.
4. Next, replace the towel or cloth beneath the rug with a dry/ clean one.
5. Dip a cloth in a little club soda or cold water.
6. Blot the stain and follow by blotting with a dry towel.
7. If the stain still persists, try blotting some shaving cream onto the stain.
8. If still remains on it, try a mild solution of 1 tea spoon of dish washer mixed with water.
9. Finally, blot the stain with a dry cloth.
Note– Remember, before you apply any solution ensue with a patch test, not to ruin your rug.

Any method of cleaning will be hard on your rug, so perform cleaning only if required. Most of the rugs can be cleaned once in a year.
