People take an amazing number of photographs during the holiday season. Photos are taken of the children wearing their Halloween costumes, friends and family gathered around the Thanksgiving table, wrapping paper flying everywhere while presents are opened on Christmas Day and the joyous celebration on New Year's Day. Of course, there are also many other holidays and events celebrated across the land during this time, such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. While each holiday celebration is different, candid photos are common to most of them. Viewing these photos brings back fond memories of the event.

Some folks still take pictures using film cameras. Because of the limited amount of shots that can be taken per roll, the photographer is often very frugal with his or her shots. Many of the photos are very carefully composed because once taken, that part of the film is exposed and cannot be overwritten.

Digital camera media cards store anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand images. The shutterbug can just click away happily, taking shot after shot. Because the photographs can be viewed instantly, unwanted images can be culled on the spot and better ones taken immediately. If the photographer wants to wait until later to edit the photos, they can be downloaded to a computer after the celebration is over. Digital photography has certainly made it easy to record our many memories.

Even so, it has also made its very easy to lose digital images. Many times this is not noticed until after the holiday season. When sitting down to reminisce over the holidays' photos, the photographer might find out that some of the images are missing. There can be several reasons for this including formatting the media card before the files were downloaded. However, unless the files were overwritten by the new photos, it is still possible to perform digital picture recovery.

There is digital image recovery software available on the market that can recover these lost images from media cards. Once the software is installed on the computer, the media card is placed in a card reader, and the software scans the media for the lost files. The budding photographer will be able to choose those photographs that he or she would like to recover.

It is also possible that the photographs were accidentally deleted from the hard drive. Additionally, the hard drive may have suffered from logical damage, preventing the user from accessing the files. There is also software available for hard drive recovery, allowing the user to recover inaccessible files. Because there is a possibility that the software will be inadequate, it is a good idea to choose software with a free demo so it can be tested before buying to ensure success work.
