Guilty as charged, I lose interest in my home very quickly. After only a couple of years of residing in my new home, I begin dreaming of a new area, a new floor plan, or some other new thing. I think I always feel restless because my family moved a lot when I was growing up. Each new move provided me with an opportunity to make new friends, make a fresh start in school, and explore a new area.
My husband does not share my desire to move every couple of years. His family never relocated to another home or bought new furnishings his whole childhood life. I don't think he wants to be unreasonable, but the more he insists on staying, the more I want to make a move. So when I started talking about moving last year, he came up with every reason he could think of for staying put. He was right, the housing market had soured and the economy did not look too rosy. The time was not right to attempt to sell a home or to commit to a new mortgage.
I realized I was wrong so I took another route. If we can't find a new home, we can just make some changes to this one. When we started entertaining more, we found we needed more room. After discussing various possibilities, we came to the conclusion that a veranda should be added to the rear of the house. After perusing a stack of home improvement books, I came upon an excellently designed set of French double swinging doors to put in place of the old sliding door and shabby screen that had a run in with our dog during his puppy years.
The contractor that installed the veranda steered me toward a fabulous company that was able to install new dramatic French doors and windows to match. Being that the master bedroom was located in the back of the house as well, we decided to create a tranquil retreat by replacing the windows in that room with French doors too. With the addition of a soothing waterfall, the transformation to a heavenly retreat was complete.
It will soon be one year since the remodeling was finished. I'm still very happy. French doors make entertaining a pleasure, as the guests and the breeze can drift in and out. I finally found what I had been looking for. It is possible that I will not have the urge to relocate again. This has pleased my husband as well. He says that he was starting to believe it would be a far simpler task to get a new wife rather than moving constantly. He's joking, right?
