Movers and packers

This article is all about hiring a mover to move your goods or vehicles from one place to another, this article gives a brief idea about how to hire a mover.
Moving can be so stressful, and if you hire movers, it can be very expensive, too. There are a number of things to keep in mind when you look for moving companies. Here are some things to keep in mind.
Recommendations

Movers actually have laws that regulate their business. Household-goods brokerages do not. So first of all, be sure to contact movers—not brokers. Then, follow these steps:
• Get recommendations. Ask anyone you know if they can recommend a good moving company.
• Get an estimate. Moving quotes should be based on a thorough understanding of your needs, and the types of belongings you have. If you have collectibles and a lot of fragile items, the movers and packers need to know it so they’ll be prepared with proper supplies and time.
• On site estimates. Make sure the home movers come to your house and see for themselves what they’ll be doing. They should look in each closet, storage building, and in the garage. If they don’t they may not know what they’re in for.
Screenings

Don’t be afraid to run a background check on the mover, or to call the Better Business Bureau to research a moving company. These screenings would best be done before you allow the people into your house. Check out sites about moving scams to see if the companies you’re considering have a history of complaints.
Getting Your Estimate

If you’re hiring long distance movers, make sure they can provide you with a “binding not-to-exceed estimate”. A binding estimate will assure that you won’t have to pay an outrageous amount once you reach your destination. If you receive a non-binding statement, you can expect that the final bill will be more than the estimate. The estimate will be based on the time required to pack, transport, and unload your items, and on the weight of all the belongings.
The Day Of Your Move

You should, by now, have a written estimate from your movers, whether they’re long distance movers or local movers. This estimate will have a USDOT, or United States Department of Transportation registration number painted on its side. If it doesn’t match the one on your estimate paperwork, stop all proceedings until you find out why. Call the moving company directly and get an explanation—don’t just take the truck driver’s word for it. There are a lot of scammers out there, and those in the business will know how to get your belongings before the movers do. If the numbers match up, then check the inventory one last time before you sign it. Keep a copy for yourself, and check it as it is off-loaded at your destination.

While hiring home movers can be very stressful and seem to be quite invasive, a good moving and storage company can be worth the investment. They’ll have insurance and bonding to protect your belongings during the move, and they’ll do the heavy work, saving your back and your temper when it comes to hauling box after box.
