From the start of movies, there has been a use of posters for marketing and advertising purpose as they were displayed outside the movie halls to depict the ongoing movie or announcing the next one. They were also pasted on public walls across the city to make them aware of the release of the particular movie to the people of the town.

Art is an expression and application of human skills to express creative skills and imaginations. This is what a generic definition of Art happens to be. Thus a Movie Poster can also be considered as a form of art as it is an expression using creativity and imagination created out of the scenes of a movie which are in them self imaginative and a form of art.
From the above definition of art film poster can certainly be considered as an art form although it is created for the purpose of advertising and marketing of a particular movie but there happens to be a lot of similarities in between both of them. Although we are not here to discuss the points about how it can also be considered an art form but to lay some light on the artistic patterns and the use of a movie poster as an art form.

From the vast collectors and even huge collection of film posters, there began to be a demand and organized need to make them available for sale to those who were looking to buy them. This further sparked the recognition of film poster as an art form. People then began to create decor themes according to the movie era and genre that was truly catching the trend in restaurants, hotels and homes. From the commercial establishments it took no time for home owners to use them for their wall decor needs of home theatre rooms and lobby.
In the modern times, a film production company not only releases posters for marketing them and pasting them on walls but also provide them to several online movie posters stores and merchandise selling shops across the country so they can be bought by the fans of the movie and actors staring in them. All such posters are used to decorate the walls in one way or the other providing an aesthetic value along with an emotional attachment to the users.
Thus it can very well be said that in today’s world movie posters have gained a lot of recognition as a form of art both because of the rarity of vintage ones and as a means to decorate for the new film posters being released.
