If you have a pre-existing condition you will want to read this article and find out how this will effect you when it comes to obtaining health insurance

Many people think of the new government health care plan that is on the horizon as some type of hand out to those American's without health insurance and there is a general consensus around the country that the haves should not be forced to give to the have nots. Those who think it is just the poor who need help need to realize that this issue goes well beyond those who can't afford health insurance to another group of individuals.

Another group of Americans who are living out there days without health insurance are those who are ill. Even those who begin with an illness that is covered by their health insurance will eventually run out of benefits and will find themselves struggling to afford the treatments that they need to survive.

Having health issues that cause you to be ineligible for health insurance can be devastating. Of no fault of their own they are in a crisis and the health insurance industry looks upon these high risk people as uninsurable because they are already sick and in need of costly treatments. Many people in the U.S. die each year because they are unable to afford the treatments that they need and without health insurance coverage are left with only palliative care options to make them more comfortable until they die.

It is a discriminatory process and one that is unfair to those who have already received a diagnosis for a disease or illness. Pre-existing issues also plague those that are in need of health insurance as once you allow your health insurance benefits to lapse any health issue that arises during the first 3-6 months of your new insurance policy will be considered as pre-existing and will be ineligible for immediate coverage. Usually after this period the new health insurance coverage will kick in.

One thing is for certain this new health care plan will help those in America who are already ill and considered uninsurable. Under the government health care plan all people will be considered equal in the eyes of the insurance companies and will be allowed to obtain affordable health insurance. It is this group in particular who has no where else to turn, who consider a government run health care program a necessary step to overall equality in this country.
