In the early beginning of the car industry and manufacturer, almost 40% of the cars in the market were electric. However, due to the economics of fuel stations and lack of battery technology, fuel-based cars superseded electric cars. By the turn of 21st century, electric cars were scarce.

However, as the research and development in battery technology increased, the cost per kW decreased while energy density vastly increased. The evolution of electric vehicles is a transient response that is directly related to battery evolution.

The use of new technology and innovation led to the first step away from petrol engines and the first step towards hybrid vehicles. The car creates a seamless integration between the electric battery and petrol fuel. The car battery enables the car to run certain operations, however, it still requires the combustion engine.

The plugin Hybrid Electric vehicle is another step up from the hybrid vehicle. The hybrid vehicle only charges when the car is running, however, the plugin can be charged using an electric vehicle charging station. The internal battery allows the car to run without any fuel, in essence, its usage and limit are dependent on the car battery. If the car battery elapses, it can change its source of energy and use petrol for operation. One drawback with most PHEV is the relatively slow EV charging speeds and current lack of electric vehicle chargers australia at around this time, the charging infrastructure and long charging times made it difficult to create trust in PHEV.

As the capacity and energy storage of the battery improves, the less dependent the car becomes on its fuel-sources. The final transition is complete dependency on battery and the fuel combustion engine is made futile. With bigger batteries, faster charging and more electric vehicle charging stations

As the views and the mindset of the community as understanding the impacts that transport emissions have to human health and our planet becomes more apparent. Often the electric problems like range anxiety, cost and charge time were ancient hurdles that disabled the success of electric vehicles.

Further-more electric vehicles like Tesla created an exponential acceleration in the transition towards EV. Going against all the odds, Tesla invested huge capital into all forms and parts of the electric vehicle industry. Initially, it led to various bottlenecks with multiple battery problems. Paired with the unfamiliarity of EV, customers were not accustomed to EV technology and the trust had to be created through a strong brand reputation. For Tesla, the sleek design and outstanding performance challenged the critics and finally exceeded customer expectations.

Currently, both social and economic benefits are starting to tip towards EV and this growth will continue to be present in the future. With the decrease cost of batteries, increase in density and longer range the balance of power is shifting towards BEV over Hybrids.
