From fishing village to modern city

In medieval times, Sitges was a small fishing village where life was organized around Baluard Hill. There were the parish church, hospital, cemetery and a small group of houses within an enclosure. They were connected with the rest of town by a bridge at the end of Main Street. There are several towers, possibly built in the fourteenth century, that show that the entire village was fortified.

Centuries later, thanks to the initiative of artists, Sitges became a place of reference and outreach center of the Catalan Modernism.

In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, there were many painters, sculptors, musicians and intellectuals who left traces that have remained until today.

Today Sitges is known as a cosmopolitan city that gathers people all around the world due to its culture and art.
