Planning a Christmas holiday wedding is a beautiful thing, something that many brides dream of but are scared to tackle.
Here are a few ideas to get you started if a Christmas wedding is in your future.
- Location - Chances are you will need an indoor location, unless you are one of the lucky few who live in a year-round warm climate. Many churches and banquet halls are already decorated festively for the holiday season, making them a conveniently perfect choice for a wedding and reception. Hotels are always a nice choice because you can often receive discounted rooms for wedding guests.
- Theme and Colors - Christmas holiday weddings lend themselves to the use of forest green, burgundy and gold, though the use of silver, white and all shade of blue are also popular. You may decide to pick out festive wedding invitations first, which may have themes involving snowflakes, holly berries, snowmen or any other number of holiday symbols. Now is the time to get creative!
- Dress and Formality - Indoor weddings during the winter are usually more formal, as you and your guests will most likely prefer to dress in long sleeves and long pants instead of strapless gowns and short skirts. Many holiday brides choose dresses adorned with snowflake-like sparkles or a fake fur coat. Some also warm up under a velvet red cape, which is taken off during the ceremony.
- Food and Cake - Cold weather lends itself well to homemade comfort food. You could consider a catered hot meal, which would suit the weather more than tea sandwiches or other “light” fare. Holiday cake flavors usually involve rich flavors such as pumpkin, apple spice, nuts and heavy creams. Warm, natural colors are usually used for icing or fondant color and decorations.
- Flowers - Since flowers can be quite expensive during the cold winter months, you might consider picking something that is seasonal to the holidays. Poinsettias are a great choice for this, though not all holiday brides choose red as a part of the theme. If you live in a warmer climate, cost may not be a factor. Choosing white flowers such as lilies and tulips can make a bold statement.
If you want a unique and special wedding that your guests are sure to remember for quite some time, consider a Christmas holiday ceremony and reception. You might keep in mind the holiday plans that some families make each year, but chances are that your friends and family will be excited about your wedding plans once they hear about them.
