Preparing for job interviews is an important task not only for students but also for working professionals who are looking for change jobs. An interview is not only a test of the candidate’s knowledge but also a check of whether the candidate will fit into the new organization. The human resource departments of most companies make sure that they check the candidate on all parameters to ensure the best possible fit with the job role and the recruiting organization.
The most important reason why some candidates are rejected is poor communication skills, and specifically the lack of fluency in spoken English. It is important to appear confident and articulate during a job interview. Make sure you are prepared with answers to these questions
- Tell me about yourself
- Give me a brief background about your education qualifications
- Why do you want to join this organization?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your areas of improvement?
- Where do you see yourself five years from now?
It is important to think about these questions and write down answers to them. If you know someone whose opinion you respect, it would be a good idea to run your answers through this person. Then, you should practise the answers to these questions in front of a mirror. If you have someone you can practice with, it is a good idea to get some feedback. Remember that you should not rush through the answers. Many candidates speak too fast and the answers seem rehearsed and inaudible.
Besides communication skills, body language is also an important factor which is judged by the interview panel. Make sure that you walk in confidently into the interview room.
