Almost half a century ago, the mayor of Figueres asked the famous artist to give one picture to his homeland museum.
Three reasons for the museum

Almost half a century ago, the mayor of Figueres asked the famous artist to give one picture to his homeland museum. However, Dali decided not to give them only a picture, he decided to give them a museum. Thus, he bought a burnt theater, which is now the largest temple of surrealism in the world. He said that he had three reasons to buy this building. First, because he was an extremely theatrical painter, the second because the theater was located next to the church where he was baptized and the third because his first exhibition was held in its entrance hall. He was buried at his own discretion in this museum.

Before you come inside the museum

The building itself - the museum with a square and a well seems interesting. When you go to the museum, you will find huge eggs and dolls like a crown on the roof of the museum. In front of the Theatre Museum is a monument to a Catalan philosopher whom the painter really appreciated. The monument consists of the roots of century-old olive trees and body covered by a Roman toga. Moreover, it has an egg instead of the head. If you observe it from far, it resembles Roden’s “The Thinker”. There are also huge atoms and lots of other things.

Temple of surrealism

Visiting this temple of surrealism is really a unique experience. It is like opening doors or drawers of a subconscious world. Above the entrance to this museum theater, as the artist called it, is a puppet in a diving suit. Dress it and you will dive into the most intimate part of the human mind, the world of dreams and the subconscious.
The eternal secret is below the iceberg according to Freud. He also claimed that one of these other worlds is beneath the dome of his Figueres Museum Theatre, where you find an unexpected, fascinating world of surrealism.

Cars in the museum

The inner part of the museum resembles a circular luminary. Thus under the open sky, there is a central part with Cadillac cars. One of these cars belonged to Roosevelt, another to Al Capone and to Clark Gable, etc ... The car is a common icon in Dali’s masterpieces, therefore the fossil material is blended with the latest developments of humankind and allows movement.

The inner parts of the cars were carried out as installation pipes through which rain water flows constantly in order to keep the snails alive. These snails accompany a chauffeur and a doll in the back seat.
