What Is A Self Storage Unit?
Self storage units are also known as mini storage or mini warehouse. These are rentable enclosed spaces that are called units, rooms, or lockers. Unlike a regular warehouse, these units are locked by the renter and the facilities staff has no access. The management does not take any responsibility for the items stored; and for this the renters have to buy insurance on their own. Typically, they are windowless units with corrugated metal walls.

This also allows the renter the flexibility to rotate the stored items. Some facilities allow renters to drive all the way up to the unit.
Most facilities are fitted with individual door alarms, smoke and fire alarms, CCTVs, and interior unit lights. The better facilities are manned 24x7, have perimeter fencing or concrete walls, industrial level security lighting, and special recessed padlocks that are virtually impossible to pick. Some facilities insist that all visitors sign in and sign out; non customers have to be accompanied by staff members.
In places with extreme weather conditions, such units are a boon for expensive items. Climate controlled units offer protect ion from mildew, mold, dust mites, and fungi. These are best for wooden furniture storage, heirlooms, antiques, important papers, artwork, expensive clothes, electronic devices and several others.
