We use statistics in calculating the population of city, state or country. It is also used by different organizations for calculating the data of their organization. And there are several hundreds and even thousands of real life applications of statistics. When you study statistics, do you hear something like mean, median, mode, and range. Mean is the very simple term that is used in statistics. It is similar to average. You all had studied average in junior classes and you all love doing average sums. As in average we do sum of all the numbers and divide it by total count, similarly, in mean we do addition of all the number given in the list and divide it by total count.
Before calculating median first you have to arrange the number of the list in ascending order. The list may or may not have number in ordered form i.e. means they may be random. So, firstly arrange the numbers in order that is in increasing order (For lower to higher). Median, is same as its name suggests that means the middle term. The central term is median if number of items present in the list are odd and if number of items in the list is even then the median is the average of middle two terms. Now, mode it is the term that repeats in the list of the number. It is possible that sometimes their is no mode or sometime more then one modes are also possible. Other term is range, it is the difference between the largest number and the smallest number present in the list.
To understand it in a better way lets take an example:-
2,4, 6
it is a list given to us. In this we have to calculate mean, mode, median and range.
Mean = 2+4+6/3.
=> 12/3,
=> 4
median as the number of items is odd and already arrange in ascending order so no need to do any change simply take the middle term i.e. 4
median= 4
mode; no number is repeating here so no mode is present.
Range= highest term- lowest term
=> 6-2
=> 4.
