The master copy is very important, since it is the source from which further copies are made. The copies can be made by different processes such as pressing, duplication, or replication. There are two main types of mastering: digital and analog mastering. The digital process is a more recent process and one that is more widely used today. Though, there are some like those who create tapes, who still take recourse in analog masters.
