To pay tribute to Goddess Shakti thousands of devout pilgrims set on Vaishno Devi Yatra in the hills of Jammu and Kashmir. Temple of Goddess Vaishno Devi is one of the holiest shrines in India and is located at an elevation of approx 5200 feet. As per the legend Goddess Vaishno Devi spent time at the cave where her temple is built in today’s time and this was where she merged with the Supreme Energies. Following the common myth thousands of pilgrims set on Vaishno Devi tours hoping to attain their desires and to ultimately attain Nirvana.

The Legend: Goddess Vaishnavi is believed to be the manifestation of spiritual strength of Goddess Maha Laxmi, Goddess Maha Kali and Goddess Maha Saraswati. As per the common legend the cave is where Goddess spent some time and that the vibrations of her presence can still be felt inside the cave.
Vaishno Devi Temple: The temple is recognized as one of the “Shakti Peeths” of Goddess and thus is believed to be having divine qualities. Situated in the folds of Tirkuta Hills the temple is where people visit irrespective of their color, caste or creed and are all treated equally. On Vaishno Devi tours constant chanting of ‘Jai Mata Di’ fills the scenic ambiance with rejuvenating energies renouncing mind, body and soul from all the fatigue. The cave where the temple of Goddess Vaishnavi is located is believed to be where one gets rid of all the impurities and is granted wishes. The 13 kilometer long challenging trek is covered by thousands of devotees each year with the sole aim to have one glimpse of their goddess whose divine presence can be felt all around the region.
Ways to Reach Vaishno Devi Temple: Nearest railway station and airport is located in Jammu which is approximately 50 km from Base Camp at Katra. Regular Deluxe busses are plying from both airport and railway station. One can even opt for taxis or tourist vans for traveling to and fro. These cabs and busses take about 2 hours to reach Katra and the hired cabs leave for Katra in every 10 minutes. Helicopter ride from Katra to Snjichhat is one of the easiest and fastest mode of transportation opted mainly by elderly people.
Vaishno Devi Yatra apart from being a physical journey is more of a spiritual journey, a journey which challenges one’s faith and love for their beloved deity. Thus leaving all the material comforts and luxuries pilgrims from around the world undertake this journey with a hope to get them fulfilled by the blessings of Goddess Vaishnavi.
