Venogram for CCSVI is conducted to observe the blockage and narrowings in the vessels of the patient's body, as the blockage and narrowing cannot be diagnosed through non-invasive procedures, hence venography becomes essential diagnostic tool. Stents for CCSVI is another treatment carried out strengthen and normalize the blood flow.
Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency or CCSVI is the condition arose by the insufficient supply of blood from the central nervous system. The condition of inadequate blood flow is caused either due to the blockage in the jugular or azygous veins in the neck area. Another cause for CCSVI is a damaged flap in the venal system that also causes reverse blood flow in the veins. Due to these two conditions the proper outflow of the waste rich blood from the brain is prevented resulted in the increased waste deposition in the brain causing damage to the brain cells. There are many curative process and treatment of CCSVI.

Venogram for CCSVI

Venogram is a special type of x-ray image, which is taken after a special contrast agent or radio-opaque dye is inserted into veins, as the veins would not be visible without the contrast agent. The venogram for CCSVI is conducted to observe the blockage and narrowings in the vessels of the patient's body. Blockage and narrowing cannot be diagnosed through non-invasive procedures, hence venography becomes essential diagnostic tool. Venogram is often performed when initial tests, Doppler Ultrasound or MRV are not able to provide a clear image of the veins. This is also performed if further evaluation is required for positive CCSVI diagnosis.

Stents for CCSVI

Previously the most common CCSVI treatment was catheterization or the repair of the damaged vein or removal of the blockage in either the azygous or internal jugular veins. This was quite similar to bypass surgery that is conducted in the heart. Balloon Angioplasty is another CCSVI treatment, in which a balloon is inserted in the affected vein. First un-inflated balloon is inserted towards the affected area and then inflated in the manner that blockage is dislodged. Stents for CCSVI treatment is carried out, in which a tube is inserted in the vein to strengthen it and normalize the flow of blood. In this procedure the stent is applied in the damaged area either to remove blockage or prevent blood back flow. Stents are left attached in the area to increase the blood flow and prevent further damages to the veins.

Zamboni Liberation Procedure

Liberation procedure is a latest therapy carried out for multiple sclerosis. This therapy was first performed by Dr. Paolo Zamboni hence this therapy was named as Zamboni Liberation Procedure. This procedure was carried out in the patients who was suffering with the return of venous blood from the brain and the heart. Balloon angioplasty of the jugular and azygos veins was performed based on the findings and significant improvement was noticed in the patients. Zamboni Liberation Procedure is still in its early stage and with the time only one can estimate its long term benefits. This Zamboni Liberation Procedure freed the blood flow hence this was dubbed as The Liberation Treatment. Liberation treatment is carried out to reduce the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis. Liberation Treatment in India are offered at some world renowned hospitals at a very reasonable cost.
