Decoration of wedding mandaps is the most essential part of any Indian wedding decoration as it is the sacred place where all traditional rituals are performed and newly wedded bride and bridegroom takes vows of being for each other for the remaining part of their life. Traditionally mandaps were only used for the actual wedding ceremony but these days people use if for many pre and post marriage activities and photo shoot.

A wedding mandap is actually a canopy structure temporary erected on four pillars. These pillars are made up from wood or metal supporting decorative roof. Four pillars of the Indian Hindu wedding mandap have the traditional value matching to the four goals of the life according to the Hindu mythology; Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha. It also signifies the four Vedas; Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samveda and Atharvaveda. Since ancient times different types of wedding mandaps are used in Indian wedding. It also differs according to the condition and cast of the family. Today also this different is standing out and one can see the different types of mandaps used by the different types of people.
Traditionally wedding mandaps were decorated mainly with the flowers and colorful drapes. However, these days many others things like traditional props in terms of diyas, rangoli, lanterns and bandhani are used to decorate mandap. It is decorated with bright colors mainly in combination of yellow and red or white and red. One can see the use of flowers like marigold and rose quite often for the making an attractive décor of the wedding mandaps. Also the four pillars of mandap are decorated with different style using lighting, drapes and ribbons.
There are different types of wedding canopy available for anybody to choose from. Some of the most prestigious and costly canopies are made up from crown jewelry and crystals. There are also a gold platted or real gold mandaps available to outshine your occasion and make the best impression amongst the invitees. Golden or silver hollow pillars with crafted design and lighting inside are one of the latest trends one can see today. There are also an ancient European style mandaps available with pillars crafted in Roman sculpture style. Hindu god and goddess were specifically selected to make sculpture style pillars.
Only mandap decoration is not enough, there are few other things that also need to look after matching to the actual stage decoration. They are backdrops, carpets, chairs for bride and bridegroom, best man and lady’s chair, lightings of the venue and entrance. Selection of these all items needs to be in harmony with the décor of mandap and vice versa.
