Even though, paint is available in a wide range of colors, not all of them are friendly for the environment. As a rule, it becomes easier to identify the different between a normal and an eco friendly paint. When you just open the lid of a box, you will get the fresh odor of a conventional alternative that has a wide range of greenhouse gases and other environmentally harmful chemicals that are released to the atmosphere, when it is applied. On the other hand, natural paints are non-toxic in nature as they do not or emit just a little unsafe materials to the environment.
Conventional and VOCs:
When you open a conventional alternative, you will get to see a creamy blend of solvents, dying accelerators, biocides, pigments, hardeners, adhesives and plasticizers. The solvents used in these traditional alternatives are Volatile Organic Compounds shortly called as VOC. It is the VOC that helps in holding the ingredients in a blended stated when it is in liquid form. But, they escape into the air, when they are applied to the wall. When the same is applied outdoors, the VOC combine with other airborne pollutants for creation of smog and the same when done indoors will make the indoor air unhealthy. They provide extended exposure to Hazardous Air Pollutants shortly called as HAPs. This can lead to respiratory and metabolic illness, headaches and many other disorders. Even after a year of application, the VOC will continue to emit.
Certified green paints:
When paints with reduced level of VOCs are more of natural paints, some internal alternatives have an even lesser impact to the environment. Homeowners can choose premium-grade zero-VOC alternatives that make use of VOC-free colorants. These are free from vinyl and other plasticizers and they are called as non toxic paint because they do not include non toxic biocides. These alternatives can be identified by the environmental certification seal that can be found on the label.
Natural paint:
These are generally made from non-toxic pigments, lime and milk proteins. This is an eco friendly paint and they have some practical drawbacks as well. This means that they are not nearly durable and also the choices of colors are limited as well. But, this was the case earlier. But, nowadays, non toxic paint is available in a wide range of colors these days. Earlier, it was available only in powder form, but now it is available in liquid form as well.
