What your commercial printer may have not been able to tell you or they did but you simply cared less. Once you set a meeting with a printer it always important to listen to what they have to say, you wouldn’t want to end up with a print that has half-baked colors and the printers will eventually tell you that this has been discussed in your initial meeting and you agreed to it.

Save your files according to our guidelines.
Your files must be saved according to their requirements or else expect a ping-pong of files. Should your printers have difficulty opening your files or certain issues arise your printers will most likely send the files back to you for revision or conversion. If you follow their guidelines you are less likely to commit mistakes with the files and get the right files your printers hope you actually have. Should you have missed what they prefer ask them what file types they want the design to be, the resolution needed for your print, the colors they use and the crop mark measurements. Remember it is always good to follow their suggestions rather than do just about anything you want, this printers have tons of experiences and you don’t so listen to them.

Not all prints can be rushed.
While almost all commercial printers allow rush print jobs, there will be a small chance that some requests will be denied and this will be dependent on the volume of your prints, your deadline, their man power, materials unavailability or your budget. It is always better that your printers tell you the truth and if your requests are feasible instead of telling it to you when the printing has already began.

Additional services may require additional fees.
If this is your first time to create the designs, you are more likely going to request the assistance of your printers to be sure that you are doing the right thing for your prints. If you basically ask them to make the design for you, expect to add a little extra on the costs. There are also certain services like mailing or distribution, placing the inserts in specific materials like folders or whatever weird requests you have in mind that is not included in your agreed package will result to additional fees.

High-grade printing materials may result to higher costs.
This is a bit obvious; you need to remember that you need to pay for better stuff. If you are picking out papers with very high substance (very thick ones) or papers that are very durable you are most likely to pay a little more than the usual.

Printers use CMYK colors and your regular programs use RGB.
The colors that you see in your monitor is likely not the same ones you will see in your prints because your programs are normally saved with RGB colors which have limited colors compared to what printers use.

Remember that commercial printing is still a business and every commercial printer is goaled to getting high sales. There are some people who think printers can easily bring down their prices because of the simplicity of the service without realizing the actual costs of the business always make sure that when you haggle the price of your print package you are reasonable and already know the going rate for the actual package (which you can achieve by checking the prices of other printers).
