Technology thrives on our need for better comfort and speed. Computer is a huge invention and has led to many more inventions centered on it. Data storage and access is a major feature that computers provide hence, having your data in hand is a major requirement today. There are number of portable drives with varying capacity that can store your data and give you access to it whenever you want. Portable SSD drives are one amongst them.

Also known as Solid State Drives, they symbolize the next generation of data storage hardware as they are more energy efficient and smaller. SSD drives operate much faster than the traditional hard drives. This has been enabled due to improvement in technology after the invention of the traditional hard drive. SSD drives have really improved the way in which files are stored. These drives are compatible with notebook, netbook, desktop and laptop.

The Portable SSD drives offer better durability as compared to the standard hard disk drives that are found in most of the personal computers. They are absolutely shock resistant and can take a bump or a hit more effectively as compared to a conventional hard drive which is more fragile.

SSD drives are much smaller and sleeker than the conventional drives. This makes them absolutely portable making it easy for you to carry data wherever you go. A huge difference between Portable SSD drives and hard drives is that hard drives have many fragile moving parts that are required to save and process the data. Hence, conventional hard drives are more prone to damage that can lead to serious problems. They are not as shock proof to handle a hit or a knock effectively. This does not make it a very safe option to store your data, especially if you have no backup.

On the other hand, SSD drives are absolutely compact with no moving parts. Hence they are more durable and can bear slight knocks and drops effectively. They are built with solid state memory chips; that’s where they get their name from. They are quite similar to the computer memory found in a laptop or a netbook computer.

As SSD drives are in great demand, you can find a number of these products in the market provided by different manufacturers. They are available in different sizes and capacities. Also every manufacturer has something different to offer. These offers could sometimes get you a 512 GB SSD at a price equal to that of a SSD with lower capacity. However, the manufacturer could compromise on a few features. The other features you can avail in these products include good speed at a competitive price or trim technology with lower speed.

With abundant features, Portable SSD Drives prove to be more efficient and dependable as compared to the older HDD. It is said that in time, experts will replace the traditional hard drive with these efficient models and make it a normal inclusion in computers; thus making computers all the more efficient.
