Concrete staining can literally change the weathered, dull gray concrete sidewalk or your driveway and give a whole new amazing look. Acid stained concrete floors offer a vibrant look that will in fact increase your property's value. It is a better economical choice to opt for as replacing your concrete altogether can be quite expensive.

Like any other home project you choose to start, preparation is crucial. This is especially true with concrete staining and is indeed a critical step you need to consider while going for a stained floor to transform the look of your patio or sidewalk floor. But even if you are not a professional, it’s easy to prepare the floor for staining.

So before applying the acid stain, you need to make sure the rest of the surfaces, whether indoors or outdoors, are well protected along with the plants, as you don't want them to get damaged due to the spray. You can consider using the plastic sheet to protect the plants and floors. Once you have this in place, the next step is to get the concrete surface cleaned up. This way, there's no dust or debris that will come in the way of applying the stain spray. In case there happens to be any unwanted oil or paint on the surface, you need to make sure to get rid of this as well along with any wax or sealer. One of the best ways to do this is by using a soap or detergent along with a brush or even better a special pressure washer. In case of wax/sealer it’s better to make use of a special stripper to get rid of them from the concrete surface. In fact, make sure not to use any acid wash on the concrete surface as it can get rid of required reactants in the surface, which can result in concrete becoming unwelcome to any application of stain.

It is encouraged to use water to test the surface to ensure it’s clean and is ready to receive the application of stain. If the water is absorbed by the surface, then it’s ready for the concrete staining. On the other hand, if the surface rejects water, then you might want to carry on with the cleaning process. Once it’s ready and freshly cleaned up, you can move forward with the staining process to get that amazing new look.
