For a bride and groom, finding a great wedding photographer for their wedding is an area that is very important to the couple. After all, this is the one day out of their lives when they will be photographed like movie stars, and both the bride and groom want to look their best on their wedding day.
So how should the bride and groom go about finding great wedding photography at an affordable price? Some wedding photographers lure couples in with an initial bid at a low price, while hiding some of the extra costs that figure into the making of the perfect wedding album. This is a tricky route to go down, as it can lead to spending more than is necessary for amazing wedding pictures.
Tom Curtis, co-owner of Eyeshot Photography, a wedding photography company in Scottsdale, AZ says that today, given the transparency of social media and the Internet, there should not really be any hidden costs.
“Brides and grooms want their wedding pictures to look amazing, but they don’t want to spend a fortune on great looking pictures,” said Curtis.
Eyeshot Photography is part of a new wave of wedding photography companies using the power of social media and the Internet to raise their profile, while opening up and being transparent about wedding photography costs.
“Most couples have a pretty good idea of the look they want for their wedding pictures, so ultimately, it becomes a matter of finding one great photographer who can work for one set price, without any hidden extras,” says Eyeshot’s Curtis. So instead of all these wedding picture options, we decided to offer one great wedding photography package at an affordable price. We don’t really want hidden costs. We think prospective married couples want someone to say, ‘OK, for this low price, here’s everything you’ll get – an album, a photographer for seven hours, prints, negatives, online slideshow, and that’s it.”
Other companies are also using social media to open up their images and services for prospective couples, and prospective brides and grooms are responding to the social aspects of working with photographers.
But in any wedding photography package, it’s important for the couple to ask themselves what kind of pictures do they want? Do they want ultra-color shots or black and white shots to evoke an older era? What will be the setting? Is the location near to the wedding venue or out of the way? How should the bridesmaids and groomsmen be positioned for best picture symmetry?
These are all the type of areas that should be agreed upon by prospective brides and grooms BEFORE soliciting the use of wedding photographers. Because nine times out of 10, a couple without a firm idea of what goes into wedding day photography may end up paying much more for wedding pictures than they had planned.
