The holidays are a time to gather with family and friends and enjoy a variety of delicious food. And if you’re throwing a holiday party, and need some extra sweets to add to the table, cutout cookies are the way to go. Cookies are an easy dessert to make for a large number of people because they’re not only festive, but everyone, including children, can participate in making them.
The first step in making the perfect cutouts is to find a good dough recipe. A solid recipe usually consists of simple ingredients including butter, sugar, eggs, flour, vanilla, salt and baking powder. Finding one that makes light, fluffy cookies is important so look for one that doesn’t call for too much flour as flour makes cookies tough. After the dough is made, roll it out and usefestivecookie cutters to cut out the cookies. Some common holiday cookie cutters include designs like wreathes, Santa, snowmen or Christmas trees.
Next, put the cut out dough on a flat cookie sheets and bake them in the oven. While the cutouts are baking, you should be preparing the icing. There are different ways to frost cookies, and while purchasing icing from a store makes things easy, homemade icing usually tastes the best. Also, if you make your own icing, you can add food coloring to it to make the perfect holiday colors. Homemade icing is made using powdered sugar, butter and vanilla. By mixing these ingredients, you’ll create a white substance. Divide the white frosting into individual bowls and add festive food coloring to each one. If you have piping bags, you can use them to frost the cookies as it makes for an easy application, or, if not, simply apply icing to the cookies with a butter knife.
After you frost the cookies, you’re ready to add sprinkles, candy and other decorations! Be sure to have the any decorations ready whilst frosting so the icing does not dry before you decorate! If you have children who are helping, put mini M&M’s, Red Hots, and other little treats into candy dispensers so you can keep your decorating space clean. Add sprinkles and colored sugar to the cookies and leave them to dry on display ware so everyone can see your beautiful handiwork.
Finally, if you’re throwing a holiday party, purchase some clear bakerycasesfrom an online shop or local retailer so your guests can help themselves to the tasty treats you’ve made!
