Shipping Lobsters is not a novelty anymore. Every restaurant worth its salt ships lobsters to the homesick or simply the hungry. Usually, anywhere in the contiguous United States.

One of the most famous seafood restaurants in New England ships hard shell lobsters with claw crackers . . . seafood forks . . . wetnaps and bibs . . . and cooking instructions. The restaurant offers free standard shipping.

The restaurant has perfected the art of Shipping Lobsters to people all over the contiguous United States. Orders are shipped overnight to ensure freshness.

The package must be opened immediately after delivery. If you plan to cook later in the day, refrigerate all the seafood in the package until you are ready to start cooking. It's best to cook seafood the same day it arrives.

Don't put the lobsters in water or directly on ice. Instead, place the seafood on a tray and cover it with a wet newspaper.

Ready to start cooking? Here's how to do it for best results.

Fill a large stockpot three-quarters full with cold water. Bring to a full boil. Put the live (or refrigerated) lobsters into the stockpot and allow the water to reach a second boil. After the second boil, cook for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the size of the lobsters. Remove the lobsters from the stockpot and . . . dig in!

If you are cooking lobsters with steamer clams, do this instead.

Add water halfway up to the level of the lobsters in the stockpot. Add 2 tablespoons of table salt. Bring to boil. Add the steamer clams. Cover the stockpot loosely. Wait till the second boil. After the second boil cook for 10 to 15 more minutes depending on the size of the lobsters. Remove from stockpot and serve hot.

All orders are shipped within 48 hours.

This particular restaurant also sells gift certificates, including in bulk for corporate and group gifts. The certificates can be redeemed at the restaurant or online.
