Civil society must have a civilized conscience to fight back gender discrimination

An important goal of the educated civil society must be to get rid of gender inequalities. More than policies to discourage discrimination against any gender by city government; we need a civilized conscience.

It seems to me that after 11 years of 21st century have gone by, some Asian nations just refuse to move on with time. No matter what it cost them or their off springs to remain obsolete, they are ready to pay the prices. On the face countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and many of South Asia may boast of their civil society but truth behind the façade tells a gloomy tale.
While Pakistan continues to promote gender discrimination at the ground level of eateries and social place of gathering, a more diplomatic country India does it in candid way. According to a statistics, 10 million baby girls killed before & after birth because in this religious country nothing bridges urban-rural divide better than the preference for sons even in this new century.
These are countries evolving ever so slowly because of the fact that civil societies of these countries are rapidly failing to understand necessity of girl child empowerment. Preponderance of women is still living under oppressive pressures of a prejudiced it that believes sons are like assets and daughters are like liability.
In spite of several beneficiary plans and schemes of government, the legacy continues because the folly is deeply rooted within the conscience. It is challenging to eliminate gender bias in countries that believe a son to be “mukti or moksh ka dwar” (a source for deliverance, India superstition) and where girls are seen like iblees (devil, in Pakistani).
Challenging, primarily because the inconveniences, annoyances and harassments faced by women on a regular basis are at the hands of other women in the family and society, giving rise to policies that automatically increase discrimination in nature of it we live in. I abhor the audacity with which these countries call west as a devil with horns; while they foster a real devil within.
It is thought provoking how after re-current efforts, there economic condition is failing to recover. Very few people will agree to this but the reason behind sagging financial growth is that large number of people remains unproductive in family due to gender prejudices. Moreover it is apparent that countries with gender bias are failing to niche a corner for themselves in global economy. For why would a restaurant chain, say of Dominoes, invest in a country like Pakistan where women hardly enter restaurants and eateries?
Men and women of our so called civil society believe that it is men’s job alone to earn while women should bear a child every year unless she bores a male heir. How very unfortunate. On the contrary, if given a chance to earn, women will not only give better living condition to entire family but also will stabilize the country.
The UN children's agency, UNICEF, found that where women are excluded from family decisions, children are more likely to be under-nourished.
