Lobsters are caught daily in the cold Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire. They are then sold in few stores in New Hampshire. It’s there where you can get live lobsters if you are one of those people who love to cook lobsters at home.
Do you want to order live lobsters to cook at home? Here are some particular things that you must know while buying lobsters so that you won’t get duped.

First, you should know that lobsters can be categorized into two types - cold water lobsters and warm water lobsters. Cold water lobsters are usually more preferred, however, they are little costlier than the warm water ones. A warm water lobster is also called a "spiny lobster" or a "rock lobster".

But the problem is that it is difficult to recognize any difference between the two types unless it is specified by the seller. So, how would you find a cold water lobster? Well, it’s much easier. Check the front claws of the lobster. A cold water lobster has always large claws in the front compared to a warm water lobster. Besides, the meat of the cold water lobsters is whiter than their warm water counterparts. The meat of the colder water lobsters is often considered more tender, as they grow more slowly in cold waters. On the other hand warmer water causes a healthy growth among spiny lobsters and they tend to grow larger in size.

Cold water lobsters are widely available in Maine but you can also find them in Maine's southern neighborhood - New Hampshire. Here too, lobsters are caught out of the same water as in Maine. Interestingly, Maine accounts for nearly half of the lobster catch in the United States.

Other than USA, you can find cold water lobsters in New Zealand, Southern Australia and in South Africa. Warm water lobsters can be procured in Florida, the Caribbean and in Latin American regions. If you want to get a live lobster, in most of the cases, you need to go to the specific area where they are caught live. It’s almost difficult that you order live lobsters and you will get them delivered at your home.
